UPDATE: Lagos records four new cases of covid-19

The Lagos State Ministry of Health has announced four new cases of the coronavirus disease. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 12

This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi during a press briefing on Thursday.

This announcement is coming barely a day after the Federal Ministry of Health announced five new cases of the disease.

Professor Abayomi had explained that out of the 19 people that were tested on Wednesday, 4 of the cases tested positive to the covid-19 virus and had been isolated for treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, Lagos.

The commissioner said that the first of the four cases who tested positive is a female case who had contact with the lady who came in from the UK and had tested positive to the disease.

The second new case was a female who returned from France on March 14 on a Turkish airline TK 1830.

He said that the third case was a Nigerian man in his 50s who did not travel to anywhere, but tested positive to the disease

Lastly, the commissioner said that the third case was a Nigerian man who had arrived in the country on March 13 from Frankfurt on a Lufthansa airline flight number LH568.

He pointed out that more tests were still being carried out as there are a combination of both local transmission and imported cases. He announced that Lagos State Executive is meeting on the next stage of social distancing.

The commissioner said, ‘The best way to slow the rate is to halt the movement of the virus from person to person’.

‘Currently we are following over 1,300 people right now to find information about the state of their health and the number is increasing’

He however appealed to people on the two flights to self-isolate themselves and get across to the government.
