Re: PDP Consultative Meeting held in Government House, Benin City on 8th of May, 2021

The attention of Chief Mike Oghiadomhe (CFR),  former Deputy Governor of Edo State and ex-Chief of Staff to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has been drawn to media reports arising from a consultative meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) stakeholders held at the Government House in Benin City on May 8th, 2021.
Chief Oghiadomhe has particularly watched with keen interest and disappointment, the bickering and  turmoil that has been generated over a meeting of senior leaders of the PDP that the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Mr Godwin Obaseki, in his position as the leader of the party in the state called to deliberate on the way forward.
Ordinarily, Chief Oghiadomhe would have overlooked the report aimed at tarnishing his hard-earned reputation before the discerning public, but wishes to make a few comments for the purpose of setting the record straight.
For the avoidance of doubt, some of the Leaders of the party invited included Chief Dan Orbih, Chief Tom Ikimi,  Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, High chief Raymond Dokpesi, Arc (Dr) Mike Onolemenmen, Hon Tony Aziegbemi (Chairman of the party ), and a host of others. Deliberations focused on the wellbeing, cohesiveness and growth of the party and never targeted any individuals or groups for attack .
In Etsako, there is a proverb which says “it is the widow of one’s elder brother who provokes him  to insult his late brother in the grave.” In view of this, Chief Oghiadomhe will be very mindful not to overstretch the issue in question in espousing his thoughts.
First and foremost, Chief Oghiadomhe is an aborigine of the PDP having been a foundation member right from the association stage in 1998, through joining with the G34; contested elections and served two terms as Deputy Governor,  and also the Chief of Staff to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, an office that enabled him to work closely with the party at national level .
It is the convention in the PDP that the governor of a state controlled by the party is the leader of the party in the state. Consequently, as the leader of the party, the Governor has every right and privilege to convene a meeting the way he deems appropriate. The laid down tradition of the party in respect of governors joining our great party are well known and have been in practice across the country .
Since the crisis started few days ago, Chief Oghiadomhe is aware of threats and incentives that are thrown to party officials at ward Excos in some Leaders’ wards, in attempts at compelling them to append their signatures to suspend such leaders from the party!!  Monitoring the developments, it is now very clear that there are people who have grown within the party with sinister   motives not to form a party, but to advance personal greed by curtailing the influence of leaders. PDP, the party we founded and built, is not a secret cult and should not be made such !!!
If there were failures of low performance in the last elections that never existed, records of those wards should be published right from the inception of the party, particularly the first gubernatorial election of the PDP when the party.
Chief Oghiadomhe states unequivocally  that the meeting the governor held was well placed, and that people should learn to come to the table to discuss to ensure inclusiveness and overall good and progress of all concerned . Politics is about discussion, it is about negotiation and the PDP is a democratic party and not a Military Party of Nigeria.
