Osinbajo waives immunity to clear name

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has declared his readiness to waive his constitutional immunity to “enable the most robust adjudication” of several baseless allegations, insinuation and falsehoods against his person and office.

Prof. Osinbajo made this declaration in a tweet he personally authored this afternoon.

Below is the full text of his tweet:

“In the past few days, a spate of reckless and malicious falsehoods have been peddled in the media against me by a group of malicious individuals.

“The defamatory and misleading assertions invented by this clique had mostly been making the social media rounds anonymously.

“I have today instructed the commencement of legal action against two individuals, one Timi Frank and another Katch Ononuju, who have put their names to these odious falsehoods.

“I will waive my constitutional immunity to enable the most robust adjudication of these claims of libel and malicious falsehood.”

Timi Frank, an ally of Atiku Abubakar peddled the first set of allegations, alleging that Osinbajo received N90billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service for the 2019 election and that Osinbajo’s “ ongoing travails” was because Osinbajo could not account for the money.

He claimed to have reliable information from his sources in the presidency to the effect that Osinbajo’s travail has nothing to do with 2023 but alleged mismanagement of about N90 billion Naira released by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to prosecute the last general elections in favour of the APC.

The FIRS promptly rebutted the allegation and demanded a public apology.

But instead of tendering the apology, Frank came out today to invite the EFCC and the ICPC to investigate his allegations.

Osinbajo has already taken off his gloves to fight his traducers as he has instructed his lawyer, Femi Falana to sue The Vanguard, which published Frank’s allegations.

Falana, in a letter to Vanguard, on behalf of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, demanded apology over the story.

Falana described the story as libellous.
