A Nigerian doctor, Akintunde Ogunfeyimi has warned against excessive intake of local gin and herbal concoctions, as shield against COVID-19.

He said there there has been no scientific proof to support the notion.

He warned that excessive intake of local gin and concoctions would rather damage the intestines, kidney and liver.

Ogunfeyimi is the Chief Medical Director of Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa.

His view has been corroborated by the World Health Organisation.

The Sun cannot stop COVID-19

WHO, in one of its myth busting series, also warned people against exposing themselves to temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius.

It said exposing oneself to the sun or to temperatures higher than 25C degrees ” DOES NOT prevent #COVID19″.

On alcohol, the UN agency said drinking alcohol excessively can actually exacerbate one’s health problems.

“Alcohol is known to be harmful to health in general.

“It is well understood to increase the risk of injury and violence, including intimate partner violence, and can cause alcohol poisoning,” WHO said.

” At times of lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, alcohol consumption can exacerbate health vulnerability, risk-taking behaviours, mental health issues and violence”, it added.
