LASAA sanctions firm advertising with mobile strippers at Lekki Toll Gate

The Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency (LASAA) has sanctioned the advertising firm that was responsible for the advertisement that made use of semi-nude women in an outdoor mobile advertising truck around the Lekki/Ikoyi toll gate, in Lagos.

The agency has reportedly suspended the firm’s licenses, pending final examination of the matter.

The details: A statement made available by Mr. Mobolaji Sanusi, the Managing Director of LASAA, on Saturday, stated that the unregistered mobile advertising motor vehicle which had no valid registration for 2019 was illegally deployed in an abysmally debasing projection of semi-nude women for several hours around the Lekki/Ikoyi toll gate.

The statement reads, “The attention of the Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency (LASAA), has been drawn to a viral video on social media of a queer display of semi-nude women in an outdoor Mobile advertising truck around the Lekki/Ikoyi toll gate.”

LASAA further revealed that checks proved that the truck with Lagos State’s vehicle plate number APP713XL was not registered with the agency for the purpose it was deployed by the company on Saturday.

“While the agency is working on ascertaining the status of the truck with Lagos State plate number APP713XL, we wish to state, without equivocation that, no outdoor mobile advert truck within the jurisdiction of our dear state is licensed to display such crass immorality of the calibre that the owner(s) of this truck exhibited on our roads over the weekend.”

On the sanction, Mr. Mobolaji disclosed that the company would be sanctioned with the full extent of its law.

“The full weight of the law, as enshrined in the Agency’s extant law, will be meted on the company owning this erring outdoor mobile truck. We assure members of the public that the Agency shall henceforth scrutinize activities of mobile trucks to forestall a recurrence of such an avoidable obscenity.”

“The government of Lagos State, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, has zero-tolerance for any slightest attempt by anyone, under any guise, to debase the moral fabric of our dear state. Nobody can hide under the guise of engaging in the outdoor advertising business to display obscenity that is antithetical to our cherished cultural and moral values.”

Backstory: Several social media reports indicate the so-called strippers were part of a music video from Afro-Pop singer and star Tekno. In a tweet posted by a motorist at the Lekki Tollgate where the van was seen, Tekno was allegedly sighted dancing with the strippers. It is, however, unclear if it was a music video being shot or part of a publicity stunt for the AfroPop star.
