How NCC’s Strategic Management Plan will drive digital economy

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami says the new Strategic Management Plan (SMP) 2020-2024 of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will be a catalyst for the implementation of the Federal Government’s Digital Economy.

Dr. Pantami revealed this during the virtual launch of NCC’s 5-Year Strategy on Tuesday, accompanied by stakeholders in the Nigerian Telecoms sector, the NCC and sister parastatals of the Ministry.

The SMP 2020-2024 is the visionary document of the NCC, guiding it for the monitoring, planning, analyzing, and assessment of the Commission to reach its goals and set objectives.

The Plan is made up of five success factors identified for the implementation strategy which are: effective communication, human resource capacity, ownership and commitment, development of and adherence to a strategy development manual; and implementation discipline.

The Minister says launching the SMP shows the commission’s seriousness in improving performance matrix and its efforts in accelerating the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) and the Federal Government’s National Broadband Strategy of 2020-2025.

“I feel very excited for the fact that there is a serious improvement in the performance of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The launch of this SMP 2020 – 2024 is a clear indication of that. When a parastatal is performing, it will create an innovative idea on how to be more successful. When a parastatal is not performing, you will not hear anything on how to implement policies and come up with different strategies and plans,” he said.

How the NCC’s Strategic Management Plan Will Drive The Digital Economy

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta says the Federal Government’s diversification focus is banking on a robust Digital Economy which will drive employment generation and encourage innovation.

“This was prime in our minds during the formulation of the SMP. We have invested great time and effort in ensuring that this document is pragmatic, and I am very confident and excited in its completeness to successfully guide the Commission in achieving the set objectives. We are committed to the implementation of this SMP,” Prof Danbatta said.

Dr. Pantami urged the commission to double its previous successes by aiming for new highs with the implementation of the SMP 2020-2024.

“The NCC must ensure effective implementation of the SMP,” Pantami added.

The face of the New SMP is captured under the acronym “ ASPIRE 2024 ’’, broken down as:

A: Advancement through

S: Strategy

P: Professionalism

I: Innovation

R: Regulatory

E: Excellence.
