…Ize-Iyamu swore to agreement to relegate Esan political leaders after emerging as Edo governor
As the dust over Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s sudden preference for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the gubernatorial candidate in the September election, is struggling to settle, fresh insights into the reason for Oshiomhole’s sudden u-turn have emerged in leaked secret pact between both political actors.
The leaked information made available to thenewspanorama and checked with close allies of Oshiomhole, showed that the Esan question is at the root of the new affection between the APC national chairman and his former political enemy, Ize-Iyamu.
A mutual friend of Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu who would not want his name disclosed, said: “Well I can tell you that Comrade Oshiomhole could have forgiven all the ‘political sins’ of Governor Godwin Obaseki, but not Obaseki’s large-hearted disposition towards Esan people.”
The source explained: “The truth is that Oshiomhole is not comfortable with the way Obaseki has been mainstreaming Esan people in Edo politics and he (Oshiomhole) wants someone that can sustain the hate campaign against Esan people and other perceived enemies of his. He has found that in Ize-Iyamu, who, out of his desperation to be governor, has agreed to all the terms and conditions given by Oshiomhole”.
He added: “People must not forget that Oshiomhole’s sins against Esan people are uncountable. So he fears that scions of Chief Tony Anenih may infiltrate the APC system and come all out for Oshiomhole’s head in the near future. In politics you don’t leave things to chance.
“So one of the missions of an Ize-Iyamu governorship is to politically annihilate the Esan political leaders or at least keep them at a manageable position.
“He couldn’t compel Obaseki to do this because the governor is a fair-minded and refined person who would rather give everyone a chance to prove themselves instead of sustaining a fight started by his predecessor.”
Thenewspanorama can report, that based on facts of recent political developments in the state, Oshiomhole has never minced words about his disdain for Esan people. He hated the fact that Esan people were largely diehard members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He dethroned their traditional ruler and insulted Chief Tony Anenih without provocations, almost on a daily basis.
He marginalised Edo Central senatorial district in the eight years he was governor. No significant developmental project was extended to the area and Esan politicians were forced to take the third place after the afemai people in the state’s affairs, as against their traditional second position after the Benin people.
Some allies of the former governor said Oshiomhole’s hatred for Esan people stems from many events, one of which is the pain he went through to reclaim his stolen mandate from Prof. Osarheimen Osunbor.
Oshiomhole believes Esan people killed his first wife, who hailed from Esan land and more recently, the APC national chairman has been pointing fingers at Esan people as the ones responsible for the mysterious illness that his second wife Lara, has been suffering, another source said.
