Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s aspiration to emerge as the APC candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State is on a roller coaster to ruin as his membership of the ruling party faces fresh hurdle.
Recall that Ize-Iyamu has been declared a nonmember of the APC by the deputy governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, who on a nationwide television broadcast challenged Ize-Iyamu to produce his APC membership card to validate his claim.
While no response has been issued by Ize- Iyamu to Shaibu’s challenge, his claim that he also registered online has come under scrutiny.
The cyber cafe vendor that assisted Ize-Iyamu with his online registration however said that he did not give Ize-Iyamu any print out, which is proof of such online activity.
“I did not give Ize-Iyamu any print out of his registration,” the cyber cafe vendor told thenewspanorama.
“Worse still is the fact that the APC had since April 2018, declared as fake, the online portal where Ize-Iyamu may have registered as a member of the party, if at all he actually did”, a leader of the APC in the state, who pleaded anonymity, said.
Checks by thenewspanorama showed that several national newspaper publications including PUNCH newspaper, in April 2018, quoted the APC as saying that the online portal was fake. “This happened when Ize-Iyamu was still in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and may have missed the news,” another source said.
So beyond the pious pronouncement that he registered as member of the APC on the online portal, Ize-Iyamu will be required to show proof of the registration in the coming days and beyond that, will have to produce the address of the portal if different from the one that has since been declared fake by the APC.
If this reporter’s fears about Ize-Iyamu’s nonmembership of APC are confirmed, then he stands disqualified because leaders of his political ward in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, where he claimed he registered offline, have also pronounced Ize-Iyamu as a nonmember of the APC in their ward.
