THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POLITICAL GOVERNANCE AND POLITICAL BANDITRY
Gov. Obaseki’s Leadership Demeanor and Ize-Iyamu’s Failed Melodrama
It was evident from the opening seconds of a supposedly serious national television program that the governorship candidate of the APC was going to shamelessly exhibit his characteristic nefarious nature; the disputed APC flag bearer could not conceal the fact that he did not come to the program for the purpose of engaging in dialogue for the benefit of the Edo electorate, rather Ize-Iyamu saw the broadcast as an exploitable opportunity to further mislead and dupe the confidence of the viewers.
As a bold-faced liar, an attribute for which he is infamous, Ize-Iyamu attempted to spread malicious falsehoods and fabricate narratives against Governor Obaseki hoping that such insidious move will help to rescue the slumping APC campaign.
Ize-Iyamu’s media scheme was quickly seen by the viewers as a noxious scam and, consequently, there was a simultaneous outpouring of condemnation of Ize-Iyamu’s deceptive melodrama.
The difference was unarguably clear between the serious leadership inclination of the Governor and the recklessly thuggish penchant of Ize-Iyamu.
Although he failed miserably to pull the Governor down to the abysmal gutter which is the APC flag bearer longtime habitat, Ize-Iyamu however succeeded in simultaneously making himself a figure of pity and a laughing stock.
All through the program, Ize-Iyamu never provided any enlightening answers to the crucial questions that he was asked by the Debate moderator. For instance, while Ize-Iyamu crudely criticized the Governor on the issue of unemployment and the promise of 200,000 jobs for Edo people during his first term, the AK-47 Pastor fumbled and evaded and evaded the Moderator’s inquiry to give his own projection of job creation if he was elected a Governor.
Of course, Ize-Iyamu could not point to any credible direction to fighting unemployment in Edo State, the shallow Simple Agenda had no ‘simple’ answer for the complex question. But Ize-Iyamu had the guts wrapped in his unbridled arrogance to attack the sterling record of a Governor that has, even in difficult economic circumstances, created about 160,000 from the promised 200,000 jobs.
It should be beneficial for our polity and for the civics of the September 19th election to understand that Ize-Iyamu is an absolute purveyor of malicious fiction and a distributor of the dope of hope. Just re-examine his flamboyant hubris on the issue of jobs during the debate and compare that to the concrete fact that Ize-Iyamu is actually one of the greatest job killers in Edo State history and the most anti-workers’ leading politician of our times. It is not only that Ize-Iyamu catalyzed the fraudulent sales of the entire assets of Bendel Brewery, Ehor Fruit and Juice Company cassavita company, Ukpela cement company and the Bendel Transport Corporation during his tenure of office as Secretary to the State Government, he equally presided over years a regime of huge arrears of salaries to pensioners, teachers and public service workers in the state.
How can such a character with such a despicable record even talk about jobs and employment issue? But Ize-Iyamu has no compunction of conscience so lying is his second nature just like comingling public funds with private wealth is inextricable from his political pedigree.
The day of our historic decision is here, and the electorate of Edo State will resoundingly prove to the world that they will not return to Ize-Iyamu’s land of pestilence in Philistine. Let us begin the march to the final victory .
