Canada invites 4,500 Express Entry Candidates, as cut-off score drops to 470

The Canadian Government has invited 4,500 Express Entry Candidates to apply for its Permanent Residency (PR) in its latest draw held on February 19, 2020.

The report stated that this invitation round is the highest draw ever held by Canada.

This increase is channelled towards the Government’s commitment to reaching this year’s target of 85,800 ITAs.

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score in this latest invitation round was 470, 2 points lower than the previous draw held earlier in February.

Meanwhile, the tie-break applied in this round of draw was 13 January 2020. This means that all candidates with CRS scores of 470 or above, who entered their profiles in the Express Entry before the date received invitations to apply.

How CRS Score works

Candidates are ranked based on a score awarded under the CRS, which considers factors such as age, education, skilled work experience, and proficiency in English or French.

A set number of the highest-ranked candidates are issued an ITA for Canadian permanent residence through regular draws from the pool.

These invitation rounds typically take place every two weeks and the vast majority involve candidates from all three Express Entry-managed categories which are: the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.

In order to reach this year’s 85,800 ITA target for new permanent resident admissions, the Canadian government would need to start issuing larger numbers of invitations in every draw.

The latest draw is the 4th in 2020, which brings the total number of ITAs issued this year to 14,800 indicating 17.25% of target met.

Other opportunities

Nine Canadian provinces and two territories have what are known as “enhanced” PNP streams that are linked to the Express Entry system. This Provincial nomination earns the applicant an additional 600 CRS points and effectively guarantees an invitation for Canadian permanent residence.

Some of Canada’s Express Entry-aligned provincial nomination streams that have issued invitations this year include Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Prince Edward Island and British Columbia.
